Since the beginning of time, massage has been an integral part of our existence. Rubbing a sore muscle is as instinctive as breathing. Throughout history there are records of massage being used in many cultures as a primary component of healing. Written records of massage in China date back to 1400BC, around the start of the Shang Dynasty. The Hindu Tantra of India taught that the base of the spine was the central life force of the body and focused massage in that area. The Romans historically used bathing and massage as an everyday ritual of wellness. In ancient Greece massage was used in conjunction with diet, hydrotherapy, relaxation, and herbs to create a system of healing that has been notorious and inspirational throughout the ages. Avicenna, one of the greatest Persian medics, advocated the use of massage to facilitate healing. Henrik Ling, considered the father of Western massage, established his system of massage known as “Swedish Massage” in 1813.
Massage Therapy is a timeless, traditional method of healing and if you have not yet experienced the benefits of massage, it is high time you did. Exposure to stress causes our bodies to go into a “fight or flight” mode that puts us in a state of tense, readiness. Our blood pressure, heart rate, and adrenaline is increased while our digestion, immunity, and circulation to the extremeties decrease. Exposure to constant stress over time has a wearing effect on the body and lowers our resistance to disease. Massage allows a release of pent up tension and stress and brings our body back into a state of calm and relaxation. Aside from giving your body a respite from the toils of stress, it has numerous psychological benefits as well.
Massage connects your mind with your body and allows you to release negative emotions that your physical self has been harboring, sometimes unknowingly. By bringing the body back into balance, you will be better able to cope with the challenges of day to day life.
We invite you to come experience the many benefits of massage as our ancestors did and empower yourself with the healing power of touch. |
